Painting Works on Paper
It takes two to paint. One to paint, the other to stand by with an axe to kill him before he spoils it. - William Merritt Chase

Josh Crow constructs paintings reflecting an arcane realism, achieved by abstract and impressionist oil painting techniques. Deftly employing thick impasto, wet-into-wet and bits of glazing, Josh’s brushwork is sometimes noisy and other times quiet. Unhindered by formality, his works are more spontaneous than planned. Josh received and Illustration degree at Rhode Island School of Design in 2000 followed by an MFA in Painting from Indiana University, Bloomington in 2005. This educational background shaped his definite illustrative sensibility. Throughout his paintings, scenes of customarily cool fashion models unfold in desolate and pedestrian environments. Often natural and mundane objects add to the visual intrigue. Josh continues to expand on these spaces and cultural signifiers as he further defines his unique visual language.
